Bob and Tom with Penny at the St. Francis Feast Day-Blessing of the Animals 2010 at St. John's Episcopal in Georgetown.

One of the neighborhood's most popular gatherings of recent years has been a tradition at St. John's church at the corner of Potomac and O Streets for the past fifteen years. The annual Blessing of the Animals at St. John's Episcopal took place under threatening skies this past Sunday, 3 October. The rains held and the event was a howling success. Many local dog owners brought their best friends and others to attend this popular occasion in honor of St. Francis Feast Day. The Reverend Dr. Albert Scariato, known affectionately as 'Father Albert', officiated with the help of some of the church liturgical staff and accolytes as he blessed the furry attendees under the loving gazes of their owners. Treats were in store for all who participated and much good cheer was the order of the day.
