The origininal Georgetown House Tour was held in the spring of 1930, when only the exteriors of houses were shown, and it has been an annual feature of the town ever since. Proceeds go to Old Saint John's Church (Potomac and O Street) and are earmarked for the rector's discretionary fund for social welfare, from which they are most likely to be used to alleviate conditions of need in the Georgetown area.
The Georgetown House Tour is reputed to be the oldest continuous private house tour in the nation. The homes on the tour will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and tickets are on sale now. The price of admission to this year's tour is $50 per person ($55 after April 16). There is also a Patron's Party to be held prior to the tour and will cost $150.
