What's Buzzing? 'Lost Symbol,' Cirque on Horseback, Carol Joynt's Return and Lanier Going Postal
What's Got Georgetown and Washington Buzzing?
1. Dan Brown's newest novel, "The Lost Symbol," his follow-up to the global phenomenon "The Da Vinci Code." It hit the bookstores last week (40 percent off at Barnes & Noble). Five hundred and nine pages of thrilling chases all over the nation's capital, a creepy religion-obsessed villain (isn't there always?), and lots of symbol-decoding in an effort to locate a mysterious "pyramid of the Ancient Mysteries." The book, which will no doubt spawn many new D.C. tours of its locales, does not feature anything in Georgetown. Now, that's fiction.
2. "Cavalia," a lavish orchestration of equestrian and performing arts, in which acrobats, dancers, riders and musicians cavort with horse in dream-like setttings. It is a unique celebration, a moving and spectacular tribute to the relationhip between humans and horses. Under the Big Top across from the Pentagon, it's Cirque de Soleil on horseback -- through Sept. 27.
3. Gee, Carol Joynt's going to continue her Q&A gig, this time at the Georgetown Ritz-Carlton. Let's all call for reservations and send her money. The Oct. 15 noon lunch debuts with Alexandra Wentworth, actress, comedienne, former TV show host and wife of George Stephanopoulos.
